Dear Family and Friends:
Hallo! Hello! ¡Saludos!
This week we want to welcome Elena Riefkohl to the Ring. Elena is a graphics
designer in Mexico. We hope that we continue to hear from Elena and that we
make her feel "at home".
I hope that many of you have had the opportunity to visit our new website:
www.riefkohl.com. In a matter of weeks, this website has grown and grown and
grown. We have had 132 hits, 11 entries in our guestbook, 10 links on the
Links page, and 2 entries in the Gallery section. This is absolutely
awesome! If you
have not had time to send your bio and picture to Tobi, PLEASE do so. If
you can't email your picture, send me a hard copy (my address in in the
Gallery section) and I will email it to Tobi. I am in the process of
acquiring a scanner myself. Also, please send Tobi a favorite website that
represents the area that you live. I think this is a great way for us to get
to know each other and learn about the places we live in.
The answer to last week's Riefkohl trivia is: Alejandro and Luis Riefkohl.
The name of the mexican company is Calidra, S.A. still in existence today.
This week's mystery Riefkohl had a total of 12 children, 5 survived, 3 sons,
2 daughters. In 1834, he was Chief Court Commissioner in Hannover, Germany.
This is a long holiday week-end here in the USA. October 9 is the federal
and bank holiday for Columbus Day. I can't help to think that if it hadn't
been for Columbus the Riefkohl brothers probably would have never ventured
out to the New World. So, a toast to Signor Christophoro Colombo.
And speaking about holidays, this time of year brings lots of popular
holidays. In the USA, Halloween is celebrated the evening of October 31. In
Mexico, el Día de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead is celebrated around
the same time. Please share your stories about these holidays in the
Guestbook section of our website.
A reminder about tributes to Riefkohls who are no longer with us. If you
would like to remember any of your relatives who are deceased, please send
us a little anecdote or vignette about that person. We have had a few
published, and they seem to bring a lot of pleasurable memories to all of
us.
Language usage: We are using English as our "lingua franca". However, that
should not detract anyone from writing in their own language: German,
Spanish or other. Feel free to use the language of your choice.
Hobbies, interests, businesses: Please share that type of information with
us. In this rapidly changing world driven by the Internet and eCommerce, we
are now closer than we have ever been. We may find that many of us share
interests or even business opportunities. And let's not forget traveling. I
am not going to turn myself into a travel agent for this group :=)), but
wouldn't it be nice if out of this "cabbage patch", as Ernesto calls it,
some of us could visit each other. I know that Tobi is already saving up
money to come visit in Arizona next year; right, Tobi?
Have a great week!
